At the time of publishing the DVD significant updates to the layer were underway. The National Transportation Atlas Database is a set of nationwide geographic databases of transportation facilities, transportation networks, and associated infrastructure. These datasets include spatial information for transportation modal networks and intermodal terminals, as well as the related attribute information for these features. Metadata documentation, as prescribed by the Federal Geographic Data Committee, is also provided for each database. The data support research, analysis, and decision-making across all modes of transportation. They are most useful at the national level, but have major applications at regional, state, and local scales throughout the transportation community. |

The dataset was downloaded from the BTS website: http://osav.usdot.opendata.arcgis.com/ in August 2016. When downloaded the data was in shapefile format and was in the following geographical coordinate system: WGS 1984 Datum, Units: Degrees. -Extracted features where "STFIPS" = 'FL' to select features in Florida and saved as rails_2016.shp -The data was projected to GCS_North_American_1983_HARN using the WGS_1984_(ITRF00)_To_NAD_1983 + NAD_1983_To_HARN_Florida transformation. -Added DESCRIPT field, populated it based on FRAARCID -Added FGDLAQDATE and populated it based on the date GeoPlan received the data -Removed all shape_length fields -Restructured table -Uppercased all fields -Renamed data from railines_072916 to rails_2016 This update has been edited by NTAD to better reflect rail lines and therefore does not line up with rails_2015.
