FLORIDA GEOGRAPHIC DATA LIBRARY DOCUMENTATION

TITLE: 2008 MULTI-USE RECREATIONAL TRAIL PRIORITIES

Geodataset Name: MUPRIO_2008
Geodataset Type: SDE Feature Class
Geodataset Feature: Polygon
Feature Count: 271
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This dataset contains prioritized multi-use trail opportunities from the Office of Greenways and Trails Prioritization Project. A Multi-use trail is one where two or more user groups (equestrian, hiking, off-road biking) can use the trail simultaneously. Multi-use trails can be either paved or unpaved. The areas shown in this layer are intended to identify opportunity corridors of statewide and regional significance. These corridors are 4 kilometers (approx. 2.5 miles) wide to reflect the variability of actual trail location after planning and design is completed. The trail priorities contained in this dataset were approved by the Florida Greenways and Trails Council in September 2008.

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:
The prioritized opportunities were compiled during the 2008 update to the
Recreational Trail Opportunities Map
    * Submission Cycle - March 10 - May 2: Trail planners from around the state submit suggestions and comments for additions/ edits to the Opportunity Maps. Corridors and comments submitted during the submission cycle were then reviewed by OGT Staff and compiled into a draft map.

    * Public Comment Period - June 16 - July 14: The Draft Opportunity Maps are posted on the Florida Trails Network website for the public to view and make comments on. Public meetings were also held around the state, in which the public was invited to attend, review the maps, and make comments. Public comments were then reviewed by OGT Staff for potential inclusion in the Opportunity Maps.

    * Prioritize Opportunity Segments - August -September: The Opportunity Maps segments were prioritized using regional experts and spatial analyses which rank trail quality features in a systematic way.

    * Florida Greenways & Trails Council Review of Maps - September 2008: The Council reviewed the maps and approved/ adopted the final prioritized opportunity maps.

For more information on the Opportunity Map Updates, please refer to the Office of Greenways and Trails Trail Opportunities Prioritization Project Report, October 2008 or see the Florida Trails Network website at http://www.floridatrailsnetwork.com/opp_update.html
